The Public Service Pensions Bill would establish a framework enabling the Government to introduce new public service pension schemes. The Government made a number of amendments to the Bill. Most were either “minor and technical”, or clarified how provisions were intended to work. The provisions that were subject to the most debate in Committee included: increases in the normal pension age; whether there was sufficient protection for members against changes to their benefits in future; protection for accrued rights; governance arrangements and the application of various provisions to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
